Another month has come and gone and although April brought in snow for much of the East Coast, May promises to be filled with flowers, sunshine and all around splendor. I’m welcoming in the second month of the second quarter by recapping the beauty and fashion finds I’ve been digging + event highlights I’ve attended from the previous month.
New York Bridal Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019
The biggest names in the bridal fashion industry like Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier and Galia Lahav showcased their spring and summer 2019 collections during Bridal Fashion Week last April 11-14 in New York City. Designers exhibited gowns that were both bold and feminine, laden with floral and colorful details. For my coverage at Global Glam Magazine, I had the opportunity to attend Reem Acra’s Bridal Presentation whose collections featured voluminous ball skirts and dreamy silhouettes exuding in sparkles and dazzling embroidery.
Like regal angels, models cascaded down the study hall of the Edna Barnes Solomon Room at the New York Public Library in gorgeous ethereal wedding gowns, we’ve come to expect from the designer. The emotion-filled essays of love beauty and spirituality from Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet was the theme for Acra’s grand showcase this year. Exclusive Interview with Nikita Dragun
Gracing the Global Glam Magazine HQ, whom we had the honor to interview, was no other than the badass boss babe Nikita Dragun. For my beauty and makeup loving friends, you may know her as a YouTube Beauty Vlogger alongside MannyMUA, Laura Lee, Bretman Rock, etc. Do catch the exclusive interview with this fun and fearless gal that should be up on Global Glam Magazine soon!
All About Blush & Florals
As a firm believer of dressing for the weather you want and not the weather you have, I’ve decided to break out the florals in my closet (which by the way were already in full bloom yet Mother Nature has other plans) and let them come out to play. I’ve come to a decision that my main color palette for Spring are pastel, florals with a bit of neutrals thrown in the mix to balance everything out. I have a simple style guide on how you can incorporate blush pink into your wardrobe if you want to have a read!:)
In an effort to reinvent my personal style, I’ve been stepping out of my comfort zone and started to opt for brighter dresses instead of my usual tshirt/leggings/slip-ons combo. This pastel floral chiffon dress from Tommy Hilfiger is an absolute fave! I donned it on a trip to the Cherry Blossom Festival by our town and I love how it was the perfect whimsical backdrop for the dress! For someone who’s on the shorter and curvier side of the petite frame, it can be hard to find a cute dress that’s just the right cut and when you do, you hold on to it for dear life. P.S. I got it from TjMaxx for a steal! Double win!
For makeup finds, I’ve been using Pixi’s MatteLast Liquid Lip Set all month long! The colors are perfect for that Winter to Spring transition. It sets to a comfortable matte veil + since it’s infused with rosehip oil, it’s not drying the life out of your lips.
Glossier – Phase 1 Set + Mega Greens Galaxy Pack
Throughout last month, I put the Glossier Phase 1 Skincare set to test and my skin has been loving their Milky Jelly Cleanser. I’ve simplified my skincare routine lately and I’ve read in an article that gel-type cleansers are ideal for combination to dry skin types. I use it in rotation with my Biore Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub for days I don’t need to exfoliate. A separate post where I go into full review mode (including their green mask) is in the works. Oh, and for anyone who hasn’t been to their New York Showroom, I’d be happy to include a photo tour in the post as well!
I’ve been more proactive lately when it comes to being mindful of my mental and emotional well being. Whether that’d be friends, situations or minor nuances in life, I have been filtering out everything that doesn’t nurture my mind, body and soul. Amidst being busy in between my retail job, side hustles, job applications and researching schools to finish my degree, I make sure to take self-care pauses here and there (a 20 minute blissful bath time indulgence does wonders!) to avoid overload burnout, a dark pit I never want to be in again. It’s easy to neglect taking care of ourselves because when we’re busy, stressed and overwhelmed, even a small reprieve feels like a luxury. If you’re looking to incorporate more self-care into your daily routine, I highly suggest grabbing your favorite cup of coffee or tea and taking a few minutes of your day to spend with Dee of Morning Coffee with Dee. She not only shares insights on self-care but on personal growth and positive living as well. Things I believe we all need to function effectively as an individual and as a contributor to society.
A goal I intend to achieve this year is to finally lay the foundation of the dream life I longed for since I started hustling as a writer 7 years ago. With my grandfather’s passing a few months ago, I had to take a break from everything for awhile, but not long enough before some project ideas would crawl on me, begging to be tackled before the inspiration moves on to another host. It’s been a difficult time considering how my grandfather was the only father I’ve known all my life but I’m also reminded of how he’s always praying for me to be successful and happy no matter what it is I choose to do in life.
As I continue to research more educational opportunities to advance my pursuit of a career in the Media industry, I’ll be working on the passion projects that I keep putting off for the longest time now (like that contemporary romance novel I worked on that never saw the light of day). For anyone who has been reading my content back in my Pretty Little Dreamer days, thank you so much for sticking and growing with me all through these years. I’ve blogged on and off but my passion for creating, writing and sharing stories has never changed, if anything, it has gotten stronger. I admit though, I’ve had had detours along this journey, leading me to other career paths and wearing different hats, but in the end, it’s still tying me back to my first love – writing.
That being said, Her Ink Heart will be a more grown up version of my old blog, infusing everything I learned from my Journalism and Media courses, freelance writing and blogging gigs, Editorial Internships, people whose career I aspire to have and just life experiences in general. HIH will be more editorial-focused as I plan to turn it into a magazine-type format but would always remain true to my voice as a writer. This site will also inaugurate a brand new series that will allow me to explore my creative energy and bring to life my ideas on visual poetry. This, plus a whole lot more on the pipeline. I hope you’re all on board as we all make this a fun yet results-driven 2018!
Thank you so much for reading and hope you have a lovely week ahead! ✨
