2017 is kicking in full speed ahead as we officially welcome a new month. My July consisted of conferences, fashion shows, waterpark adventures, job applications, back logs and finding clarity amidst the chaos. It has truly been a fulfilling month for me.
Below you will find my top 5 memories from July (in no particular order).
4th of July
Spent my Independence day with these two. Drove to a lake & barbecued burgers and hot dogs. It was a quiet celebration but enjoyed the company of serene surroundings and sunsets.
Her Conference 2017
Told myself I will invest in more life changing experiences and career building opportunities this year and words cannot describe how impactful the HC weekend was. Met some of the incredible women in the media industry, influential senior editors of top publications and got to make new friends who will soon be our future industry leaders. Her Conference is a venue swarming with empowered lady bosses and I’m so honored to have been a part of it.
This year’s speakers hail from top companies like The New York Times, Buzzfeed, Business Insider, Cosmopolitan, Simon & Schuster, Condé Nast, United Nations and many more. Expert panelists share their experiences, advice and tips on a multitude of topics from scoring your dream job in the media industry, kickstarting your career in marketing or PR to diving into the competitive world of social media, making a living off your blog and building self-confidence no matter what field you want to pursue.
The whole experience was truly motivating as I’ve connected with new friends who will ultimately be future industry leaders. Special thanks to Her Campus for organizing this career development opportunity!
Being in the same room as other passionate and career-oriented women has strengthened my goal in making it big in the media industry. I remember silently hoping and whispering to the stars how much I wanted to write for a magazine in New York City.
At the time, I was just a 15-year old small town girl from a province in the Philippines, how in the world will I be able to do that, let alone go to New York? I guess it’s true, when you put in hard work and dedication to build your craft, whatever it is your heart wants to achieve, the universe conspires to make it happen.
Fashion Hub Expo – SoHo, New York
Last July 29, at the heart of SoHo, in the New York City Fire Museum, some of New York’s finest and sumptuous fashion designers, artists and beauty companies gathered for the Fashion Hub Expo featuring a 4-hour fashion show highlighting their work. The event was organized by Elucid Magazine. Peep the slideshow below for some of the photos from the event. 🙂
Anabelle: Creation Advanced Screening
Had the opportunity to catch the advanced screening of Anabelle: Creation, sequel to the horror movie Anabelle; the backstory of the creepy doll scene from The Conjuring. It had a lot of fright-worthy sequences and eerie imagery. If you’re into movies with a fundamental conflict between religious faith and satanic possession, highly recommend to give this movie a go.
Former toy maker Sam Mullins and his wife Esther are happy to welcome a nun and six orphaned girls into their California farmhouse. Years earlier, the couple lost their 7-year-old daughter Annabelle in a tragic car accident. Terror soon strikes when one of the girls finds a seemingly innocent doll that seems to have a life of its own.
Waterpark date with Mama
This bonding session with my mom has long been overdue and I’m so happy I was finally able to set aside one Saturday for the both of us. Clementon Splash World was an hour away roadtrip away so we left early. The ticket was normally at $42 but thanks to Groupon, we were able to get two tickets for $45!
It’s been 7 years since I first declared that I wanted to make a career out of something I’m passionate about and attending Her Conference has solidified that for me. It was a long, cold journey but even with these broken wings, I’ll soar.
I am currently working on a number of passion projects and creative pursuits. I’m also working on relaunching this blog with better content in the coming weeks and I can’t wait to share them with everyone!
Hope everyone had a productive and positive July and cheers to a wonderful new month of possibilities ahead!
